The Christmas Tour to Illinois

I am having a blast being in Illinois with Bill and Noel, Jessica and Nate, at the home of Jessica's Parents, Ricky and David Peterson. The trip down was very exciting through a mixture of weather from dry pavement to glare ice and back again.

It is very relaxing here. I love it and I am so blessed.

Thanksgiving, church ladies and life

Here I am with the church ladies from the Methodist Church in Ottertail, Minnesota who every year baked wonderful things for the Pumpkin Festival at the Country Store up there benefitting Habitat in the area. They just continue to use their skills to love. They go about life not with an attitude of "what can I get out of this" but with the attitude, "I give myself to God and work to do his will." These are the folks I love to be around. They genuinely care for others. How sweet they are.

On this Thanksgiving I am hoping that everyone I know and come into contact with, know some folks like this.

I feel like a load has been lifted.

I am feeling like a load has been lifted from me. I am beginning to clear the deck of deadwood and emotional loads. I enjoy people who are caring, healthy, centered, loving, honest, open and willing. I have put up with too much recently of the deeply needy folks and, though I will continue to be available to them, I am concentrating on my own care and feeding with healthy people. I just got to the end of my rope and it is a good thing. I am so blessed.

Today I tried to get some honesty from a friend but he lied overtly to me. I have had it. This is rare but I am just not going to give any more attention to this man. Unfortunately for today, he missed an opportunity to meet a great guy in the field he wants to work in that I met with today. This friend has really helped me with my sobriety but he has been working at separating himself with me for a long time and now I just give up. I want no more contact with the man.

I took a man out to Pride Treatment today who helped me stay sober also. He has been out on the run with Meth and he was in awful shape. He had a dime sized hole in his arm where a needle abcessed and then broke the skin. He had been trying to keep in clean with bleach. It was terrible to look at.

I went to a super meeting tonight and just rejoiced at being with people who at least for that hour, had a desire to stay sober. And I have a grand group of people who are genuinely following God and living the joyous sober life. We know how to have fun, we enjoy life, we no longer have to "keep two sets of books." Recently I appear to have lost the high maintenance sponsees and so life is a bit boring and mundance and I kind of miss the excitement, challenge and frustrations that newbies offered me. Not that I am asking for them back, I just feel the void. Most of the loss comes from folks that appear to be going back to selfwill programs, very sad. But no longer to I want to even attempt to help them stay sober. If they make it fine, if they don't, it will just mean a bit more learning for them.

Living Potential

I'm mellow this morning. Got out of a meeting. Got a call that my Sponsee was going to be late for a meeting so I am waiting him out listening to the Clark Sisters. God is in charge and I get to follow His lead. Life is beautiful.

The Final Day of Minnesober

I am so happy with Minnesober and what I was able to do for the event. The Play, Methamphetamine for Dummies was fantastic and Dewey and I had a blast playing Jazz for dinner last night.

I am disappointed that more of my friends did not really participate or had a lot of their own issues going on. It is out of my control and is as it should be but I did not like it. There are two things in the program, success and learning experiences and I guess they needed a lot of learning for this Roundup.

I enjoyed, worked hard, got tired, and prayed a lot.

I am so blessed.

Ronnie's New Home

Yesterday I attended the Augsburg College StepUP Program Parents Orientation.
What a wonderful system and gift for college bound kids who are recovering from Chemical Dependency. Ronnie asked me to be her surrogate father so I went through the Parent Orientation. I was very impressed and am excited about the support my "daughter" is getting there.

Much more peaceful these days.

I am having a much more relaxed life these days. Ronnie is staying with me and she is so much support it is wonderful. Most of my drama queen friends are otherwise occupied so I do not have that to deal with. Business is picking up and relaxation is deepening. I am doing less, making more income, dealing with less drama and just loving life.

I never get sad when it rains

What is the joy in that? When it rains it washes away all the grime, it gives life to the grass and trees and flowers, it flushes pollution out of the streets and byways, it makes for beautiful subtle colors outside, gray is a beautiful color, it shows the power of God. That is all good.

OK, I know why I am happy, I am blessed.

I get tired of this somedays.

I get tired some days. Yesterday Ronnie was troubled and Dustin and his new friend, Nate, were sitting around and I suddenly needed to escape. I do get worn out and tired from some of this. I had just gotten off of a three day commitment of staying with my friend coming off Meth and he was angry, hostile, sarcastic and bitter. Three whole days of that can really wear you out. Here I was with three people in my condo I could not hardly stand to be with for the moment. I did not want to take care of another person, I did not want to be supportive, caring, challenging, loving to anyone, much less people who were negative and down. Luckily Michael Monroe was playing a concert at the Lake Harriet Bandshell. As soon as I could I left them and went to the concert . It was like a salve on a burn, it cooled me and comforted me immediately. Sometimes the supportive people in my life need breaks and this reminds me of that. I am so blessed.

Just found that a man I feel is one awesome man, removed me from his friends list on Facebook. It is kind of a final closure of a very painful set of circumstances where, following HP, I gave him up about two weeks ago. I am free now of him. The things I did for him are not lost. The things I lost were freely given. There are still parts of the world that are not fair or reasonable. This is just one of those moments. Had someone done what I did for him for me, I would be eternally grateful. The thing he cannot take with him is my knowledge of the loving and careing man he is and the wonderful things he can do and become. He is unable to dodge my prayers for his continued growth and blessings. I mourn him.

All day today I have been supporting another friend in his decision to go to treatment. He is heading for Burkwood Treatment Center close to Hudson, Wisconsin. This has been a very rough road, he has lost so much. He like my other friend has been in my prayers and thoughts. There is no guarentee he will find sobriety in this treatment but it will give him a chance. It is a blessing to be able to be there for him.

Ronnie continues to astound me. she is such a blessing and is being so supportive in caring for my friend, she reminds me of Aaron. I know so many wonderful people. I am so blessed. God don't make no junk.

I cannot believe I have been so lax in posting here. I have been having a blessing of a life and it has been very thick. I had the privilege of playing fiddle at Augustana with Dewey. Then I also played violin with Bob Moore at The Town House. Then of course, I played at Kwanzaa for the service. Pastor Alika really opened the word in a marvelous way.

Ronnie Berg is a young person who really gets it. She reminds me of Aaron in that she really, though young, is making very good choices in her life. She is really helping me with her candor and honesty. She is not afraid to call me on my stuff. She is grand support.

My friends on Meth are still out there. I am afraid that one will kill himself the way he is going. He has lost all yet he says he can handle it.

I stopped by the rehearsal of Methamphetamine for Dummies and I am excited about the progress on the show. We will be ready for the show in October.

I am so blessed and here are the blessings, at least some of them.
